The highest number of drunk drivers last year was recorded in Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa regions, and Kyiv

Last year, the National Police of Ukraine recorded over 65,000 protocols for drunk driving. Additionally, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine opened more than a thousand criminal cases related to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Every 25th traffic accident involving victims was caused by drunk drivers last year.
The number of protocols issued by the police for drunk driving in 2024 was 65,702, which is almost unchanged compared to 2023 (+2%). However, this is a 6% increase compared to 2021.
The highest number of drunk drivers was recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk region — 8,745 protocols. The top three regions with the most drunk driving offenses also include Kyiv with 8,176 protocols and Odesa region with 7,073 protocols.
At the same time, the fewest protocols for driving under the influence were filed in Cherkasy region — 720, Ternopil region — 816, and Ivano-Frankivsk region — 880.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General’s Office opened 1,054 criminal proceedings for driving under the influence last year. This is an 11% increase compared to 2023. Overall, 57% of the cases went to court.
In 2024, 29,816 court decisions regarding driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants were found by the Babusia search engine. This is a 14% increase compared to the period before the full-scale war.
In total, 1,000 road accidents with fatalities and/or injuries occurred due to drunk driving in 2024. 110 people died in these accidents, and 1,302 people were injured. Overall, road accidents caused by drunk drivers increased by nearly 19% compared to 2021.
Currently, every 25th road accident with fatalities and/or injuries happens due to driving under the influence.
